How to keep your dog calm on Bonfire Night
It's that time of year again when the skies light up with dazzling fireworks and the air is filled with the scent of burning wood. Bonfire Night, or Guy Fawkes Night, can be an absolute blast for us humans, but for our furry friends, it can be a bit ruff. So, grab your pup and let's explore some tips and tricks to ensure your four-legged family member is totally distracted from all the big bangs!

Pre-Bonfire Bonding
Before the big night, make sure you and your dog have some quality bonding time. A good, long walk during the day can help tire them out, making it easier for them to relax later. Plus, a tired dog is a happy dog!
Create a Safe Haven
Your dog needs a cozy corner to retreat to when things get noisy. If they don't already have a "safe space", set one up as soon as possible. Put their favourite toys, a comfy bed, and perhaps a blanket with your scent in this area. This will help them feel safe and comforted.
Music to Their Ears
Classical music or soothing tunes can drown out the noise of fireworks and help keep your dog calm.
Distraction is Key
When the fireworks start, divert your dog's attention with games, treats, or a new toy. Interactive toys like puzzle feeders can keep them engaged and less focused on the noise outside. Treat time (we're a big fan of this one!) is an excellent time for them to associate loud noises with positivity.
Doggy Spa Day
A soothing massage or a relaxing grooming session can work wonders. Pamper your pooch with some extra attention, and you'll be surprised how quickly their anxiety melts away.

Stay Calm, Carry On
Your furry friend is like a sponge, absorbing your emotions. Stay calm, and be sure to act as if everything is completely normal. Your reassuring presence can make a world of difference.
Home Sweet Home
Consider staying in with your dog on Bonfire Night. You can always catch the fireworks on TV after your furry friend has gone to bed. Your dog will appreciate your company more than any dazzling pyrotechnics.
Keep them Safe
Always make sure your dog is wearing proper identification, just in case they get spooked and make a run for it. A microchip and an ID tag are essential to help reunite you with your pet in case they get lost.
Bonfire Night can be a challenging time for our canine companions, but with a little preparation and a lot of love, we can make it a calm and enjoyable experience for them. So, follow these tips, cuddle up, and remember, your dog will always appreciate the effort you put into keeping them safe and happy. Enjoy the night, and stay pawsitive!
